LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Louisiana hospital was put on lockdown and a man who went there to visit his daughter was confronted by a SWAT team in what police later called a case of mistaken identity.
News outlets report police responded Thursday to a report of a suspicious person who might have a gun at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Edgar Sanchez tells news outlets he had gone to pick up his daughter who had surgery for a broken arm when a SWAT team detained him. Deputy Chief Mark Kraus says police determined he didn't have a weapon.
Sanchez says he believes those who called police on him may have done so because they don't like Mexicans.
Hospital CEO Larry Graham says race wasn't a factor.
